This week is National Volunteers’ Week (June 3rd – 9th 2024). It’s a chance for us to recognise, celebrate and thank volunteers across the country for all they contribute to their local communities and wider society, and an opportunity to inspire others to give volunteering a go. Many charities, community groups and local services across Birmingham involve or are led by volunteers who give their time, skills and energy to support local people and good causes. Read more
Earlier this month, Community Energy England launched the Community Energy Fortnight, a two-week campaign dedicated to promoting community-led energy initiatives and empowering communities to take charge of their energy future through sustainable practices. This year’s theme was empowerment, highlighting the potential of community owned energy projects. Read more
A new collaboration between Birmingham Council of Faiths’ Footsteps (a BrumEnergy Member), Muslim Bahu Trust, and climate solutions charity Ashden, will receive £200,000 over three years from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to build the capacity of Birmingham faith groups to engage in community led climate action in disadvantaged areas of the city, and to share the learning widely. As part of BrumEnergy, Birmingham Green Doors organise brilliant events showcasing energy efficient homes in the West Midlands. These events offer an insightful opportunity for anyone interested to join small study group visits to hear from homeowners, learning about their retrofit journeys to enhance the energy efficiency of their homes. Footsteps - Faiths for a Low Carbon Future is one of the seven community organisations that make up BrumEnergy. Footsteps’ role in this project is to connect BrumEnergy with Birmingham’s faith communities. Read more

Is your home warm? Do you need some advice or support? Ecobirmingham were at Stirchley Baths at a Cost-of-Living event on March 14th, providing free home energy advice. A programme of free events took place across the City during Cost of Living Week (6-10 November) and Living Wage Week (6-12 November). The week aimed to celebrate and promote the work done so far, work together to tackle challenges and encourage involvement and support around the Cost of Living and the Real Living Wage. BVSC took part in several events across the Week as well as holding our own VCFSE (Voluntary, Community, Faith & Social Enterprise) Sector event on 8 November. Read more
BVSC and a consortium of local Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector organisations have secured over £0.8m funding following a successful bid to the Government’s Local Energy Advice Demonstrator (LEAD) Programme.
