BVSC has introduced a new series of training courses around mental health and safeguarding for autumn 2023. The sessions were specifically selected in response to a survey of sector needs and will be run by experienced trainer, Jo-Anne Shellum of Together Minds CIC. Read more
In October BVSC will be running the next series of place-based events supporting the embedding of the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector into Birmingham and Solihull’s Integrated Care System (ICS). Read more
BVSC has recently welcomed Becky Isaac, our Vision for Volunteering Implementation Manager. Becky has joined BVSC having previously worked in Volunteer Manager roles with several charities. She understands first hand the challenges and opportunities currently presented to the VCFSE sector in recruiting, onboarding, recognising and retaining volunteers. Read more
Tesco and easyfundraising have come together to give a helping hand to voluntary groups, charities, and CICs working tirelessly to keep up with spiraling costs and rising demand. They will donate £1000 funding pots to 5 community organisations this October. Read more

BCHC are providing funding for Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations / groups across Birmingham and Solihull to help tackle increasing health inequalities and improve health literacy in relation to Long Covid, by undertaking engagement within their communities. There is particular focus on reaching people from minority ethnic backgrounds and/or people with disabilities or learning disabilities. Read more

The West Midlands Combined Authority and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games are pleased to offer this Carbon Literacy training to anyone across the West Midlands, as part of the Games’ sustainability ambition to create a carbon neutral legacy for the region. Read more
At the Active Wellbeing Society, we use surplus food in our cafes and our outreach food truck, and we also coordinate the Food Justice Network - a group of nearly 300 food projects across Birmingham supporting those in need and campaigning to end food poverty, inequality and injustices. However, recently, surplus food has been harder to come by, and so we are looking for new ways to strengthen our supply. Read more
BVSC and a consortium of local Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector organisations have secured over £0.8m funding following a successful bid to the Government’s Local Energy Advice Demonstrator (LEAD) Programme. The programme will deliver independent, high quality home energy advice to Birmingham residents. Read more
In 2022 the study was supported by Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, Barrow Cadbury Trust, Power to Change and Millfield House Foundation. The study examines how Third Sector organisations, with a wide range of characteristics and working in different local contexts, fare over time. Read more
The NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) and BVSC set out why it’s important to involve the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector in health and social care research, and how researchers can improve their engagement with the sector going forward. Read more
In June BVSC launched a new small grants fund open to voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector organisations that are supporting their community in and around specific geographic areas in Birmingham: Erdington, Handsworth and Sparkhill. This funding is aimed at organisations who have identified housing issues such as poor housing or homelessness in the communities they support. Shelter is looking to invest up to £40,000 in grant awards of up to £5,000. Read more
This summer, Birmingham Hospice opens its new concept store. Located on Harborne High Street, the 6,470 square foot store features an in-store café, community space, selfie mirror and weekend DJ sets, alongside thousands of preloved items for customers to purchase and enjoy. Read more

The £76m Community Organisations Cost of Living Fund was launched on 24 July. The fund will support organisations across England to deliver critical frontline services. Organisations will be able to apply for funding to maintain or expand critical cost of living services from now until the end of March 2024. Read more
We know that Birmingham, a vibrant and diverse city with over 1 million residents from various cultures, faiths, and backgrounds, has faced significant challenges due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis. In response, Birmingham City Council has identified key challenges for the City in its Corporate Plan (2022-2026) which includes equalities an inclusion, unemployment, opportunities for children and young people, community resilience, health and wellbeing. BVSC is delighted to announce the re-launch of its online Health & Wellbeing directory, Route 2 Wellbeing Birmingham & Solihull, with support from the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. The new version of the website features an improved user experience and information about considerably more services in Birmingham & Solihull. Read more
Five collaborative partnerships have been awarded funding as part of the ‘Research Better Together’ project. The project, which is funded by the University of Birmingham and delivered in partnership with BVSC Research, Communicate2U and Co-Production Works, seeks to facilitate stronger connections between health and social care researchers, VCSEs and the communities they support. A new Integrated Neighbourhood Teams approach aims to create a closer multi-organisational collaboration between health & local authorities, voluntary organisations & primary care in each community. You are invited to take part in an interactive, in-person workshop to help us develop a new health and care service approach in your neighbourhood. It takes place on Thursday 27 July 2023 11am-1pm.
