You can help to give your community a voice on local health and social care in Birmingham

Volunteer with us and help to ensure that we enable every community across Birmingham to feedback on their experiences of using Health and Social Care services. Support Healthwatch Birmingham to reach out into communities in our city, listen to diverse and vulnerable groups, and help make their voice known.

What is Healthwatch Birmingham?
Healthwatch Birmingham is the independent champion created to gather and represent the public and patient's experiences of using local health and social care services. This includes services like GPs, pharmacists, hospitals, dentists, care homes and community-based care. Healthwatch Birmingham ensures the public voice is heard by those who commission, design and deliver health and social care services to make them better.

Community Digital Reporter Training

Community Reporting is a movement which enables people to tell their own stories in their own ways, and connects those stories to create a better understanding of issues from people experiencing them and connecting them with people who can work together to create positive changes. The Equality Trust is working with groups and organisations to ensure decisions are informed by the people they affect most. Community Reporting is one of the methods we use to build a better understanding.
Running Great Community Groups

This is a practical learning group, two sessions face to face and one on Zoom. It is for anyone who meets with citizens to understand what they need and what they want to do to make changes to things that are important to them and their communities.

Social Activity Volunteer Helper

As an activity group lead, you’ll take turns leading the monthly session and support the other activity group leads when it’s their turn to lead. You’ll also socialise with the older people at the activity group, ensuring that everyone feels supported and listened to. The activity group will be at the same community venue and will include older people, activity group leads, drivers, and the activity group coordinator. Activity groups normally last around two hours.
Activity Social Group Volunteer Helper - Driver

As an activity group driver, you’ll collect older people from their homes, accompany them to the monthly activity group and drop them home again afterwards. The activity group will be at the same community venue and will include older people, activity group leads, drivers, and the activity group coordinator. Activity groups normally last around two hours and will include an activity that gets people moving such as: dance, chair exercises, boules, skittles or boccia.
RNIB - Community Supporter (public speaker)

Join our amazing volunteer team to raise awareness of sight loss and RNIB services at local events. You will give talks in person or virtually, sharing your own story to improve understanding of sight loss to local service providers and community groups. You’ll be making a real difference to people living with sight loss by helping to improve accessibility and inclusivity, creating a world without barriers.
RNIB - Community Volunteer - Erdington Sight Loss Support Group

Would you like to play a key role in supporting blind and partially sighted people in your local area? Are you great at communicating, love meeting others and enjoy using your admin and organisational skills? If this sounds like you, you’re the person we’re looking for to support our Erdington Sight Loss Support group meeting.

Awareness Ambassador

As an Awareness Ambassador, you can play an important role in increasing awareness of diabetes locally and online. You will support Diabetes UK campaigns by taking leaflets and posters along to local community venues such as libraries and community centres and like and share on our social media.
