Geese Theatre Company works at the intersection of arts and criminal justice. We are looking to expand our Board of Trustees and are keen to hear from anyone interested in the way in which these two sectors combine.

About the Company

Since 1987, Geese Theatre Company has been at the forefront of arts in criminal and social justice settings. The company is renowned for its ability to engage with some of the most disengaged populations within the prison system. We create innovative projects and performances, working with diverse participants with multiple and complex needs, improving wellbeing, rehabilitation and recovery.

Job Description

This is a Part Time, voluntary role. We are looking for Trustees who are:

Excited about the role that theatre and the arts can play in criminal justice welfare settings.

Committed to supporting and advancing our vision and mission and whose values align with ours.

Willing and able to commit the time and energy to attend four Board meetings annually, our Annual General Meeting, a day-long 'retreat' once a year and other networking and promotional events on an ad hoc basis.

Aware of and understand the role of trustees to uphold the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.

Willing to speak their mind and to challenge proposals put forward to the Board.

Community Digital Reporter Training

Community Reporting is a movement which enables people to tell their own stories in their own ways, and connects those stories to create a better understanding of issues from people experiencing them and connecting them with people who can work together to create positive changes. The Equality Trust is working with groups and organisations to ensure decisions are informed by the people they affect most. Community Reporting is one of the methods we use to build a better understanding.
Running Great Community Groups

This is a practical learning group, two sessions face to face and one on Zoom. It is for anyone who meets with citizens to understand what they need and what they want to do to make changes to things that are important to them and their communities.

Social Activity Volunteer Helper

As an activity group lead, you’ll take turns leading the monthly session and support the other activity group leads when it’s their turn to lead. You’ll also socialise with the older people at the activity group, ensuring that everyone feels supported and listened to. The activity group will be at the same community venue and will include older people, activity group leads, drivers, and the activity group coordinator. Activity groups normally last around two hours.
Activity Social Group Volunteer Helper - Driver

As an activity group driver, you’ll collect older people from their homes, accompany them to the monthly activity group and drop them home again afterwards. The activity group will be at the same community venue and will include older people, activity group leads, drivers, and the activity group coordinator. Activity groups normally last around two hours and will include an activity that gets people moving such as: dance, chair exercises, boules, skittles or boccia.
RNIB - Community Supporter (public speaker)

Join our amazing volunteer team to raise awareness of sight loss and RNIB services at local events. You will give talks in person or virtually, sharing your own story to improve understanding of sight loss to local service providers and community groups. You’ll be making a real difference to people living with sight loss by helping to improve accessibility and inclusivity, creating a world without barriers.
RNIB - Community Volunteer - Erdington Sight Loss Support Group

Would you like to play a key role in supporting blind and partially sighted people in your local area? Are you great at communicating, love meeting others and enjoy using your admin and organisational skills? If this sounds like you, you’re the person we’re looking for to support our Erdington Sight Loss Support group meeting.

Awareness Ambassador

As an Awareness Ambassador, you can play an important role in increasing awareness of diabetes locally and online. You will support Diabetes UK campaigns by taking leaflets and posters along to local community venues such as libraries and community centres and like and share on our social media.
