The Big Help Out is a nationwide weekend of volunteering and community action from Friday 7th – Sunday 9th June 2024. It aims to: raise awareness of the benefits of volunteering for individuals, communities and good causes; and provide opportunities for people to experience volunteering and make a difference in their community.

The Friends of New Hall Mill are holding volunteer opens days to recruit new volunteers to support a range of activities including gardening, helping inside the mill, at the gift shop, in the tearoom or as visitor guides.

The Friends of New Hall Mill were founded in 1996 to preserve, repair and revive New Hall Mill, a grade II listed building in Sutton Coldfield. The Friends are a small, friendly group of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds and age groups with a common interest of doing something that benefits the community, environment and preserves a piece of local history.

Every Thursday and some Sunday's, the Friends meet to do all sorts of tasks from gardening to structural repairs - there's something for everyone. The Mill opens to the public six days of the year where people can enter one of only two working water mills in the West Midlands.

Volunteers can help with all areas of mill life such as:

- Inside the mill

- In the miller's garden

- At the gift shop and tearoom

- Caring for the grounds

- As a visitor guide

- On open days

Volunteering is an opportunity to:

- Make new friends

- Learn new skills

- Help preserve heritage

- Help conserve the environment

- Have fun!

You can apply to volunteer in-person at the gift shop on an open day, or by email or phone: [email protected] / 07448844972
