Your Sector, Your Voice! #StateoftheSector2023

We are pleased to present this year's 'Your Sector Your Voice' survey. In just 5-10 minutes, you can help us to create a powerful narrative that represents the vibrant contribution of the voluntary, community, faith, and social enterprise sector in Birmingham. This survey is more than just a collection of questions – your responses will help us to understand the evolving picture of our sector's strength and diversity. By participating, you're enabling us to highlight trends and shifts that may be shaping the sector.

We appreciate and value your time, and in return will present the findings into a concise report supported by an open access webinar later in the year, where we will share the voices, opinions and contributions of all those that complete the survey. Looking ahead, we're excited to invite you to an in-person event in early 2024. Here, we will delve deeper into the findings, together navigating the essential matters that define our sector. These insights will be shared with influential stakeholders, including partners from the local authority, police, health, education, and employment. A second comprehensive report will be written on the basis of discussions from this event.

We understand the challenges that each day presents, the juggling of commitments and responsibilities. Now, more than ever, as we grapple with the aftermath of the pandemic, pressing cost of living crisis, and the financial challenges faced by our City Council, it's vital that we spotlight the crucial role played by the voluntary, community, faith, and social enterprise sector, and showcase the unwavering support our communities rely upon.

Sport 4 Life UK grows impact through partner initiative

An ambitious scheme to boost the reach and impact of youth charities in the West Midlands is to be rolled out to other parts of the country after being declared a huge success. Fairer Futures Fund - West Birmingham Locality Partnership Fund now open!

The Locality Partnership Fund is a large-scale scheme specifically intended to support interventions within each of Birmingham’s localities that: • Involve partnership working between organisations and sectors to provide integrated, effective and efficient care • Introduce targeted interventions to reduce health and/or care inequalities experienced by one or more defined communities • Increase co-production with local people to better understand their challenges and priorities

Birmingham Comes Together for a Weekend of Volunteering Action (7-9 June)

Birmingham is coming together for the Big Help Out, a weekend of volunteering action that supports local people, communities and good causes across the city. Charities, voluntary and community groups are offering opportunities for local people to make a difference, give back to their community and give volunteering a go from 7 – 9 June. There are lots of ways for people to get involved through giving small amounts of their time, including helping Food Cycle to serve meals and reduce food poverty
The King’s Award for Voluntary Service

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work done in their own communities. It is the MBE for volunteer groups.

Earth Day 2024

Saturday 20th April 2024 was Earth Day, and Footsteps joined an event organised by Love Weoley Castle.
Birmingham City Council Section 114 and the VCFSE Sector

A recording and presentation from the meeting hosted by BVSC on 11 April is now available to download and view on our website. 244 people attended the event to discuss the potential impact of Section 114 on Birmingham’s voluntary sector. A follow up event is planned for 23 May which will focus on community assets.
Stop Loan Shark Week 2024 - No Blame No Shame Campaign

Stop Loan Sharks has been around for 20 years, fighting illegal money lending and supporting borrowers. Every year we organise a campaign week to highlight the work we have been doing with our many partners. This year’s theme is to highlight that there is ‘No Blame, No Shame’ for anyone who has borrowed from a loan shark. From our research we have found that many borrowers don’t try to find help until 2 years after they first take out a loan from an illegal lender.
Empowering Mobility: Options for Life Secures Funding for Electric Vehicle & Charger Initiative

Options for Life is pleased to announce that it secured a grant from the Inclusive Communities Fund/Heart of England to purchase a 7-seater electric vehicle and a box charger.
