Good causes flock to benefit from Birmingham Community Lottery

More than 70 good causes have already signed up to the new Birmingham Community Lottery. The Lottery was launched on 17th January at an online event to give charities and good causes a first look at how the lottery will work, as well as inviting them to sign up and start fundraising.

Organisations ranging from youth initiatives, mental health charities and arts projects to community parks and friends groups have taken up the offer to give their fundraising a boost. It’s not too late for other causes to get involved as there’s no limit to how many can join. Causes can sign up here: https://www.birminghamcommunitylottery.co.uk/good-causes.

Every good cause will be able to direct their supporters to their own page on the Birmingham Community Lottery website. Causes will receive 50p from every £1 ticket they sell, with a further 10p going into the Birmingham Central Fund which will be distributed amongst the good causes by Birmingham Voluntary Service Council (BVSC).

Glynis Powell of Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens has signed up and said "We are a tiny Trust with a big responsibility to look after and share a unique green and historic space in east Birmingham. Although we welcome in thousands of people every year and run hundreds of activities and events, we receive no regular funding.

“Birmingham Community Lottery is such a great idea! Our supporters like to act locally and with this Lottery they can guarantee that their ticket purchase is a real investment, directly to us AND they get a good chance of winning something back too."

Sue Roberts of mental health charity Better Pathways said “We were delighted to hear about the Birmingham Community Lottery and we’re looking forward to spreading the word about how the funds raised will help Better Pathways to support more adults with poor mental health, learning disabilities and other neurodiverse conditions into employment, education, training and supported volunteering.”

Cathryn Worth of Queen Alexandra College said: "QAC empowers young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities to achieve their ambitions and to lead fulfilling lives. The charity achieves this through the Queen Alexandra College, Residential Services and Community Service Programmes. It is thanks to charitable donations that projects such as our sports hall, computer suite, music development programmes, community integration activities and site improvements, to name just a few, are able to happen enabling QAC to support young adults with a diverse range of abilities and needs through an innovative and holistic approach to learning and support."

Sarah Lilly, development officer for Cerebral Palsy Midlands said "Cerebral Palsy Midlands provides day opportunities to adults with cerebral palsy and other disabilities and fosters a community where every individual's potential is celebrated.

“The infusion of additional funds from the Lottery will be the catalyst propelling us forward, ensuring we have the wheels of transportation, the heart of dedicated staff, the nurturing care, and the essential equipment to continue our work."

With so many good causes signed up, it will soon be time to open ticket sales. Ticket sales will be available at www.birminghamcommunitylottery.co.uk from Wednesday 28th February. Players will have the chance to win cash prizes of up to £25,000 whilst supporting the good cause of their choice. It’s a win-win situation!

The first draw takes place on 30th March with a super draw when some amazing additional prizes will be up for grabs.
