BVSC Research and Birmingham City University are pleased to present our recently published report, Community based responses to Covid-19 in Birmingham: Insights and experiences.

Our research, conducted as we emerged from the first lockdown in September 2020, aimed to understand the changing situation of the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) in Birmingham. It explored how the VCFSE responded to the challenges of Covid-19, and the current and future challenges the sector and communities face. We were also interested in that this means for Birmingham City University and their Birmingham 2029 strategy which Birmingham 2029 which aims to respond to the challenges faced by residents of the city through three overlapping questions:  What are the societal challenges Birmingham residents face? How can BCU and the School of Social Sciences respond to the challenges? How can BCU work with the people and stakeholders of Birmingham to understand and co-produce solutions that have a lasting place-based impact?

The study offers insight into the national, regional and local experiences of VCFSE organisations and locates this learning within Birmingham by connecting and drawing upon experiences from local, and often informal, community-based organisations.
