The lottery will be a great way for people to support good causes whilst having fun, and getting the chance to win cash prizes!

A good cause launch took place on Wednesday 17 January when more than 100 attendees heard from BVSC Chief Executive Brian Carr and Carol O'Neill from Gatherwell, the Lottery Management Company. Leading lottery management company, Gatherwell, has been appointed by BVSC to run the scheme, having already launched similar lotteries elsewhere in the UK. When the lottery launches for ticket sales on 28 February, people will be able to purchase tickets online and support the good cause of their choice.

Tickets will cost from £1 a week. The draw will be weekly with a jackpot of £25,000, other prizes being £2,000, £250 and £25. Following the launch, good causes will be invited to register to raise funds with Birmingham Community Lottery and they will keep 50% from every ticket they sell. A further 10% from every ticket will go into a Central Fund that will be distributed by BVSC to more good causes, with the remainder being put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.

BVSC Chief Executive, Brian Carr, said:  “We are delighted to be working with local partners and Gatherwell to establish a community lottery for Birmingham. This is a great opportunity for local community groups to raise their profile, boost their income, and actively connect with local people. City residents will be able to support their chosen good causes in a fun and cost-effective way, with the added bonus of being in with a chance of winning a prize. It’s going to be an easy, enjoyable way for anyone to make a real difference in Birmingham.“

Nigel Atkinson, Gatherwell's General Manager, said: "We are delighted that Gatherwell has been awarded the opportunity to deliver the Birmingham Community Lottery. We're looking forward to working with BVSC to raise funds for many amazing good causes”
