Ambitious multi-million-pound plans to create a thriving enterprise hub in the heart of Erdington have been submitted to Birmingham City Council.

The authority is now considering the plans for transforming the former Erdington Baths Site on Mason Road into the catalyst for a new era of creative resources for the city.

Witton Lodge Community Association is leading on plans to redevelop the building to house start-up, growing SMEs and social enterprises.

As well as creating new jobs, the state-of-the-art facility will also support the redevelopment of the High Street and facilitate local economic resilience and growth with multiple regenerative impacts for the constituency.

Afzal Hussain, Chief Officer at Witton Lodge, said the benefits of the project would generate a new legacy of enterprise and investment for Erdington.

“There is an abundance of research outlining the benefits of co-working spaces including improved connectivity and productivity for individuals and their businesses,” he said.

“The hub will positively support the needs of Erdington’s current working population and provide opportunities to establish new service provision and activity in the constituency in support of commercial and social enterprise growth.

“Targeting the delivery of operations which enhance the strategic priorities of local businesses, this new facility will offer resource assistance in pursuit of their objectives, outputs and results.

“We understand that the levels of self-employment and business activity within an area can have a profound effect on local levels of unemployment, income and economic output.

“This is why we are confident an initiative and resource like the Erdington Enterprise Hub will help to evolve both the landscape and infrastructure of business in Erdington, both in the short and long-term.

“It will help to satisfy the growing demand from the local community for opportunities in commercial enterprise. It will assist strategies for inclusive growth, localism and community-led regeneration and provide an effective support provision for new business start-ups.”
