The role of ‘community hubs’

A PhD study in partnership between GMCVO researcher Susanne Martikke, GMCVO and the University of Manchester is looking at the role of community hubs in facilitating social relationships in deprived urban neighbourhoods. Data from in -depth fieldwork in two contrasting GM locations illuminates the importance of some VCSE organisations as spaces where citizens as activists, volunteers and involved users are addressing individual and collective challenges and building trust within communities. The final report is expected in 2021. So far, a briefing about social capital has been published.

Evaluation Review of the Teens Autism Confident programme pilot project

BVSC Research was commissioned by Autism West Midlands to evaluate the Teens Autism Confident programme. The Teens Autism Confident programme is aimed at supporting autistic teenagers to understand their condition and respond positively to it. This was built upon a previously successful course targeting adults, with the belief that encouraging autistic teenagers to feel more confident about being autistic can improve how they feel about themselves in teenage years and later in life.
