Green Village at European Athletics Championships The European Athletics Championships Birmingham 2026 is more than a world-class athletics event — it is an opportunity to demonstrate how major sporting championships can create meaningful environmental and social impact. As well as implementing measures to lower the operational impact of the event, the organising entity (Athletic Ventures) is aiming to offer a dedicated “Green Village”—a high-footfall space within the event designed to engage and inspire spectators around environmental sustainability. The Green Village will showcase positive environmental action, provide interactive experiences for spectators (particularly families), and offer organisations like yours a platform to connect with a large and engaged audience. We are putting together a programme of interactive, engaging activations and are looking for organisations who can showcase what they are doing while engaging visitors to the Championships. Where: Alexander Stadium, Perry Barr, B42 2LR The Green Village will be outside the main stadium (but within the ticketed perimeter area) in an area with other activations which are encouraging people to have a go at sports. When: The European Athletics Championships run from August 10th - 16th. There are 2 athletics sessions per day (spectators would buy a ticket typically for just one session). Gates open 2 hours before each athletics session and spectators will have time to visit the activation areas, sponsor and partner areas and the food and drink section before they take their seats for the athletics. Therefore, the timings for the Green Village activations will be: Morning 8.30am - 12pm Monday - Saturday (no Sunday session as this is when the marathon takes place in the city centre) Evening - 4.30pm - 8pm (Monday - Sunday) We would like there to be at least 3 Green Village Activations at each session - possibly more so you can choose which sessions you would like to come along to and, if there is space available, we will accommodate you. Format / facilities: We will provide a 3 x 3 m gazebo and can also provide tables and chairs. Power and wifi will also be available if you let us know in advance that you need them. We are keen that any organisation who would like a space at the Green Village is offering an activity that can inspire and engage our visitors so that this goes beyond a "for information" stand! As examples, at previous Green Villages we have organised, we have had trainer repair workshops, seed-bomb making, "fishing for litter", patch-making, smoothie bikes and phone charging bikes. Potential footfall: There will be almost 300,000 spectators across the week so every session will have tens of thousands of spectators! As this is during school holidays, there are likely to be lots of children and young people coming along. For context, the European Athletics Championships will feature Circa. 1500 athletes from over 40 European nations Over 1000 support personnel and technical delegates / officials supporting the Championships Around 1800 dedicated volunteers supporting the delivery of the events across the week. RSVP: If you are interested in having some space at the event, please could contact Kate Champion, Head of Sustainability, London Marathon Events Ltd at [email protected] with details of the following: A brief description of what sort of engagement or activity you would be able to offer Availability across the event Monday 10th August Monday AM Session 1 Monday PM Session 2 Tuesday 11th August Tuesday AM Session 3 Tuesday PM Session 4 Wednesday 12th August Wednesday AM Session 5 Wednesday PM Session 6 Thursday 13th August Thursday AM Session 7 Thursday PM Session 8 Friday 14th August Friday AM Session 9 Friday PM Session 10 Saturday 15th August Saturday AM Session 11 Saturday PM Session 12 Sunday 16th August Sunday PM Session 13 Utility requirements (e.g. power, Wi-Fi, water) Equipment needs (e.g. tables, chairs, specialist kit) There is no charge to take part in the Green Village - we want to promote your work and to inspire fans to take environmental action themselves.
