Where Are We? Callout for Stories from the Disabled Community of Colour

Artist Christopher Samuel is currently working with Birmingham Museums Trust to explore under-represented voices in museums and archives.

As a Black, disabled person himself, Christopher has often found his story is missing in museums and collections. He is working with Birmingham Museums to gather missing stories and create a new piece of artwork for Birmingham’s collection. To inform this new work, Christopher is looking for other disabled people of colour in and around Birmingham to interview, to find out about their lived experience of growing up disabled and from the global ethnic majority. Christopher is hoping to find out about experiences (good or bad!) of schools, family life, barriers people have encountered or overcome, community life, etc. as a disabled person of colour. If you have a story to tell and would like to have your voice heard as Birmingham Museums strives to be more representative of the communities they serve, please get in touch using the form below. Christopher would love to hear from you if you would be interested in taking part. Your input can remain anonymous, if you prefer.
