Trustee Volunteer needed at BCM Birmingham Community Matters (BCM) boosts the development of micro and small voluntary and community groups in and around Birmingham.In Birmingham, there are many people and groups that wish to have an impact on their community, but may require support or information to get started or to develop their activities, secure funding or manage what they do.Our peer learning network inspires people into action and gives them spaces to share, as equals, their skills, knowledge and experience.What we doBCM offers free, face to face peer support to help to identify next steps for their micro or small group. We work mainly with volunteer led groups with the equivalent of one full time staff member or less.We offer one to one support, where we match people needing support with an experienced volunteer who can share their experience and knowledge. We also run training workshops both face to face and online around topics relative to a small and micro group success, such as choosing a structure, planning projects, starting with fundraising, managing finances and setting budgets, monitoring projects and much more.Qualities In addition to the statutory duties of a Trustee we are looking for trustees that:-have relevant knowledge, networks and experiences.-are passionate about BCM’s mission to support small voluntary groups and community action.Essential skillsWe are especially looking for Trustees with specific areas of expertise in one or more of the following areas: -financial management-human resources-marketing-social media-the private sector.Desirable, but not essentialExperience of committee/group work and being prepared to make unpopular recommendations to the boardKnowledge/experience of the voluntary and community sector and charitable work.Commitment:- BCM Trustee Board meets 4-6 times per year (each meeting lasts up to 2 hours and is currently held online)- We hold two social events each year for Trustees to meet with staff and volunteers, one in winter, one in summer.We are actively seeking trustees with identities underrepresented in the charity sector. We welcome applications from everyone including those who may not typically identify themselves with the sector.
