This month is South Asian Heritage Month (16th July-17th August) and at BrumEnergy we're celebrating the diversity that South Asian communities bring to Birmingham. This month not only highlights the traditions, culture and contributions these communities bring to our city but also allows us to share the ways BrumEnergy are committed to support South Asian communities living in Birmingham!

BrumEnergy is a service that provides independent home energy advice free of charge to anyone living in the city. Our goals are to help families make informed decisions about energy use, ultimately saving money and enhancing their comfort and quality of life, whilst also reducing carbon emissions and helping to reduce the effects of climate change. As part of our efforts to reach everyone we can also offer advice and guidance in Urdu, Mirpuri and Bengali, as well as other languages.

Our energy advice is delivered by BrumEnergy partners who are trusted community organisations across Birmingham. MECC Trust in Balsall Heath and the Nishkam Centre in Handsworth play a pivotal role in supporting some of the South Asian Communities in the city. These organisations provide friendly advice either from a drop-in energy café, a phone call or home visit.

In addition to in-person advice, BrumEnergy has produced a series of home energy advice videos available on our YouTube channel. These videos presented in Mirpuri (and sub-titled for all), offer step-by-step guidance on energy efficiency covering the topics of: How to save money on a combination gas boiler by using the heating controls, Which household appliances are the most expensive to run?, How to save money if you have an immersion heater and Saving money on fuel bills in the kitchen - top 5 tips

If you’re interested in receiving free energy advice from BrumEnergy then please complete our online referral form and a local energy advisor will be in touch.

We’re also interested in partnering with local organisations who support South Asian or Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities across the city. Please contact us at [email protected] if you are interested in working with us.
