VRP Training Schedule

The West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership offers a wide variety of training courses for professionals working throughout the West Midlands. All of our courses are fully funded and delivered by our knowledgeable team of facilitators.

Each course has two online dates available every month; but if you are interested in any of the below courses for your team or organisation, you can also reach out to arrange a specific date to suit your needs which can be delivered either in person or online.

An introduction to Adverse Childhood Experiences and Trauma Informed practice

A 3-hour course which can be offered virtually or face to face. This course offers something for those who are new to ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) as a concept and those with some existing prior knowledge. Trauma Informed Practice

A 4.5-hour course which can be offered virtually or face to face. This course is aimed at people who already have a basic knowledge of childhood adversity (ACEs) and trauma, who may have also completed the Introduction to Childhood Adversity and Trauma Informed Practice module. In this course we develop the theoretical ideas further and give participants ways to apply their learning to practice and to begin working in a Trauma-Informed way.

Exploitation Awareness Training

This powerful and thought-provoking 90-minute training gives participants an insight into the real experiences of those affected by child exploitation, helping participants to spot signs of grooming and understand how they can help to protect and support children and young people.

Our experienced and skilled trainer in the WM VRP share their knowledge of the issues whilst providing a fresh way for professionals to empathise with those affected by child exploitation and importantly learn skills and knowledge that will help them in their roles. The standard training course lasts 3 hours and can be used as a standalone training or as part of your own longer training session to help provide a realistic context.

Introduction to Mentors in Violence Prevention

This 2 hour webinar introduces the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) programme. MVP is designed to help young people speak out against bullying, violence and abusive behaviour. MVP improves the culture inside any organisation or community. MVP works because young people become the trainers and influencers. No longer are teachers the only ones who manage negative behaviour.

With MVP it is the pupils themselves who play just as big a part and ensure good behaviour exists within their school and local community. The programme helps reduce the number of temporary and permanent school exclusions by providing young people with leadership skills and challenging unacceptable behaviours.

Public Health Approach to Violence Prevention

The two-hour Public Health Approach to Violence Prevention and Reduction Webinar aims to introduce learners to the public health approach and to increase awareness of the role everyone in society can play in violence prevention and reduction. The course will cover: principles of the public health approach; an understanding of the causes and consequences of violence; addressing underlying risk factors that make violence more likely; primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention; and the importance of evaluation and evidence.
