We have an exciting opportunity for someone with the right experience and a genuine desire to help Hours: 12 hours per week (with potential for increase)Hourly pay: £12.50 p/hResponsible to: Employment and Training Development ManagerContract: Sessional Contract Location: Office based in Aston, travelling is required for service deliveryFlexibility: flexible Responsible for: Volunteers Purpose of the jobNew Hope Global provides support for over adults over and the elderly throughout Birmingham to access and claim welfare benefits, grants and other financial support that may be available to them. This includes advising people on the financial support available, making applications on their behalf and following through applications to result. The Welfare Benefits Advisor will join our Training & Employment Team who is also responsible for Advice and Guidance. The postholder will be responsible for managing a caseload of clients and providing support and will also need to help beneficiaries navigate wider health, social, training, employment and voluntary sector services when needed. The role may require home visits, as well as providing support over the phone and at community locations across the Birmingham area. Main Responsibilities1. To provide support to older people to access and claim welfare benefits, grants and other financial support via home visits, telephone, and office-based appointments. 2. Be responsible for managing a caseload of referrals and helping the training, Employment, Training & Advice team achieve contracted targets. 3. Assist with the completion of relevant claim forms both physical copies and online services, upload information and ensure financial information is accurate and verified. 4. Carry out home visits when necessary. 5. Take a holistic approach by signposting / referring beneficiaries to other support and services that may be of benefit. 6. Maintain knowledge of relevant welfare benefits, guidelines, and wider local services 7. Maintain accurate records in accordance with agreed standards 8. Ensure all tasks and record keeping are up to date and accurate8. Provide support to and carry out any additional tasks delegated by line manager10. Provide high levels of customer service at all times. 11. Attend meetings and training as required. 12. Communicate effectively- electronically, verbally and in writing 13. Responsible to work with admin officer to collate monitoring and undertake regular evaluation14. Abide by New Hope Global policies and procedures.15. Be aware of and report any safeguarding concerns. Other Duties: You may be required to undertake other duties appropriate to your role and level of responsibility as may reasonably be required of you.Person Specification Experience1. Minimum three years’ experience working in an advice related role (paid or voluntary capacity) 2. Experience of welfare benefits advice work and completing benefit forms 3. Good understanding of the welfare benefits system especially for over older people4. A good understanding of the issues that affect people over 50 years of age and those are vulnerable.5. Good level of administration skills 6. Excellent organisational skills 7. Good level of IT skills (proficient in MS Office and use of social media) 8. Experience of using an information management system 9. Ability to collate data for monitoring purposes and undertake evaluation of services and clients using the services10. Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team 11. Strong communication skills 12. Positive, motivated, enthusiastic, and proactive approach 13. Approachable and empathetic, actively looking for and considering other’s views and opinions 14.
