Volunteer Opportunity: Coordinator with Read Easy Birmingham Central Read Easy is a growing volunteer organisation, which provides free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, through a network of volunteer groups. The Birmingham Central group was set up in 2020 to support the communities of central Birmingham, Aston, Ladywood, Nechells, Soho and Erdington. Our reading pairs meet twice a week for half-hour sessions to work through the provided materials at the Reader's own pace. We are looking to recruit a Coordinator who will be responsible for much of the day-to-day running of our group, with the support of the existing Management Team. You will also be involved with the interviewing process to find volunteers who want to become Reading Coaches. You will be responsible for pairing Coaches with our Readers, helping them choose a suitable venue to meet and helping organise their sessions. The Coordinator will visit reading pairs a few weeks after they have started coaching to check how things are going and to offer support and guidance. You will also be the point of contact for Coaches should they need advice and the Coordinator will be expected to maintain regular contact with Reader and Coach to check all is going well, and to make further visits from time to time. The Coordinator also gets the wonderful job of presenting 'stage certificates' to Readers to recognise their progress and when the course is completed can organise a 'graduation ceremony' to recognise both the Reader and Coach.
