Volunteer Helpline Assistant

Birmingham Mind welcomes new volunteers to work alongside our team answering the Helpline phones.

As a volunteer at Birmingham Mind’s Helpline, you would be a valued member of a lively and supportive team who answer phone calls and messages concerning mental health and wellbeing. Volunteers receive comprehensive training and support to progress. You will gain many useful and practical skills. Reimbursement for travel and meal expenses.

You must be over 18 years of age and be able to attend our Centre in Erdington. After training is completed, to consolidate learning, we request a minimum of 1 x 4 hour shift per week. Shifts are available between 9am and 11pm, 7 days a week, at your convenience. Although we welcome those seeking experience working in the Mental Health field, this opportunity is not suitable for work experience or student placements.

The application process will include:
• submitting an Online Application (https://birminghammind.org/what-we-do/helpline/become-a-helpline-volunteer/)
• attending a Volunteer Information Session at Beechcroft,
• 2 references,
• an Informal Interview at our centre in Erdington with Enhanced DBS check.
Please note that we request references after you have attended a Volunteer Information Session. This is because we need to be sure that you understand the intense nature of the volunteering role that you have applied for.
