The Sea Cadets is the UK’s leading maritime charity and provides a head start in life for young people through nautical adventure and fun. Our volunteers work, both directly with young people and behind the scenes, to help make a positive difference to teenagers who are often struggling in today’s world and their communities.

Birmingham Stirling Sea Cadets, B34 7PT is currently looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Fundraiser to join its Unit Management Team (UMT). Birmingham Vernon is a long-established Sea Cadet Unit that has provided life-changing opportunities for many young people. We currently have 30 - 40 cadets who come from all over Birmingham and surrounding areas.

Sea Cadet Units are run by volunteers. The UMT consists of volunteers that act as the unit’s trustees and comprise a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer. The UMT is responsible for the manning, funding, safeguarding and health and safety of the unit in addition to ensuring that operational and strategic aims are met.

About you:

Previous fundraising experience is desirable, although having the right attitude and a passion for improving the lives of young people are the most important things! If you think the person specification below sounds like you, then please get in touch:

· You will have some prior fundraising experience (desirable)
· You will be 18 or over
· You will be reliable and committed to volunteering
· You will be enthusiastic and keen to learn new things
· You will be a good communicator

About the Volunteer Fundraiser role:

The tasks of a Fundraiser include but are not restricted to the following:

· To be the lead person generating funds for the unit.
· Identify fundraising sources, with advice, guidance and support from the Marine Society and Sea Cadet Fundraising Team.
· Develop links with local contacts and produce a database of potential funders.
· Raise awareness of the unit to the local community with the support of other trustees responsible for marketing and communications.
· Develop and encourage links with businesses.
· To attend a monthly UMT meeting on a weekday evening. To also attend organised fundraising events (usually at weekends). All other work can be done on a casual basis, from home.

On becoming a volunteer, you will be asked to complete some mandatory training which includes Safeguarding and Child Protection. We would also require you to apply to join the PVG scheme and complete a Disclosure checking form.
