The Afghan Refugee Project aims to facilitate the integration of Afghan refugees resettled in Solihull and the surrounding area through befriending, social integration, community cohesion and economic integration. Befrienders will commit to ½ day per week for up to 3 or 6 months. Befrienders will offer clients informal support with advice and encouragement on how to get involved with wider activities within the community, helping participants to better find their bearings and become better integrated into unfamiliar surroundings. They will also be able to accompany clients on formal visits that are causing them to feel anxious such as registering with the GP, to provide moral support. However, they will not be required to provide specialist advice and will be trained to understand when to refer an enquiry back to the staff team. Each befriending volunteer will receive supervision every fortnight from a sessional worker.

The Befriender will also accompany their befriendee to monthly group social activities arranged by Entraide for which all expenses will be paid.
