Volunteer Coordinator

Job Title:                Volunteer Coordinator
Responsible to:     CEO

Job Purpose:

  • To lead on the recruitment of volunteers into the programme
  • To deliver or coordinate a rolling programme of training for project volunteers
  • To provide supervision and training to all volunteers
  • To positively promote the services of Birmingham Irish Association as an organisation

Hours of Work:     

  • 16 hours per week

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To coordinate the recruitment process of volunteers
  • To match volunteers with appropriate opportunities
  • To plan, deliver or coordinate volunteer training sessions so that volunteers can work competently in their placements
  • To provide supervision, management and developmental support to volunteers
  • To maintain records in accordance with the Birmingham Irish Association policy to ensure the integrity of information to be included in Quarterly and Annual reports to Key Stakeholders.
  • To support colleagues and volunteers providing advice and guidance as appropriate to ensure that Birmingham Irish Association’s standards are maintained.
  • To ensure good working relationships are established and maintained with volunteers, service, users and staff and key stakeholders.
  • To develop your own knowledge and practice, attend supervision and team meetings so as to fulfil your role as an effective member of the team
  • To adhere to Birmingham Irish Association’s policies procedures and practices
  • To attend supervision meetings, staff meetings, Birmingham Irish Association’s AGM, annual appraisal meetings and other meetings as required.
  • To be responsible for the health and safety of yourself and others at work
  • To undertake any training and development opportunities as agreed with the Manager
  • To ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • To work in a non-discriminatory manner at all times
  • To carry out any other duties; which may be determined from time to time by the Chief Executive, in line with the aims and objectives of Birmingham Irish Association and in keeping with the purpose and grade of the job.

Volunteer Coordinator

qualifications and training

Relevant OCN/NVQ level 3 or equivalent

Skills and abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of group learning and development
  • Ability to design and deliver Training Materials
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player in a collaborative and supportive manner
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Competence in the use of IT packages (Microsoft Word, Excel, and email)
  • Prepare clear and concise reports
  • Develop recruitment and selection procedures
  • Supervise, motivate, train and monitor performance of volunteers
  • Make effective presentations


  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Experience of working in the health, social care or criminal justice setting
  • Experience of developing and delivering training
  • Legal aspects of a volunteering
