Job Title:                    Project Officer Culture, Sport and Heritage
Hours of Work:          36.5 hours
Responsible to:         CEO

Job Purpose:

  • To initiate and support a range of Irish heritage and identity projects to develop wider access to contemporary Irish music, literature and performance throughout the year. 
  • Provide Birmingham St Patricks Festival with cultural support to broaden the range of their activities and assist delivery throughout the year. 
  • To promote and support the Birmingham Irish Association’s objectives in relation to collaboration affiliates and other partners.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop relationships with a first, second and subsequent generations to explore their Irish heritage and identity within a Birmingham context.
  2. Develop and support a range of heritage and identity projects and research into new cultural initiatives.
  3. To support affiliate groups with advertising, workshops, publicity, promotion, events and funding opportunities.
  4. Work in collaboration with other Irish groups, schools and Irish artists.
  5. Contribute to the planning and delivery of the Birmingham St Patricks Festival
  6. Provide a family tracing service to assist people to develop family trees and establish their heritage roots
  7. Develop relationships with the press and media to actively promote Birmingham Irish Association as directed by the management team
  8. To promote the organisation and identify fundraising opportunities through culture sports and heritage projects.
  9. Adhere to Birmingham Irish Association’s policies procedures and practices
  10. Attend supervision meetings, staff meetings, Birmingham Irish Associations AGM, annual appraisal meetings and other meetings as required
  11. Be responsible for the health and safety of yourself and others at work
  12. Undertake any training and development opportunities as agreed with the appropriate manager
  13. Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times
  14. Work in a non-discriminatory manner at all times
  15. Carry out any other duties, which may be determined from time to time by the Management Team, in line with the aims and objectives of Birmingham Irish Association and in keeping with the purpose and grade of the job

Qualifications and training

Relevant OCN/NVQ level 3 or equivalent

Skills and abilities

  • Good level of written and oral communication skills
  • Competence in the use if IT packages (Microsoft Word, Excel, and email)
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to plan and organise events
  • Ability to maintain clear and consistent boundaries
  • Ability to undertake training and maximise learning
