Community Development Coordinator x2


The Gangs and Violence Commission was set up during March 2016 by the Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson in response to the ongoing violence in Birmingham. The focus is to develop a community-led response to the problem and to establish robust recommendations that tackle key issues affecting local communities and stakeholders.  Community development plays a crucial role in:

  • Helping to develop practical ways to prevent and reduce violence
  • Responding to communities where gangs are present and which experience the consequences of their behaviours and violence.

We are currently recruiting for the following role to help deliver this initiative.

About the role

Community Development Coordinators will support the local VCSE to develop their offering to their communities, commissioners and Grant Giving organisations. These roles will be community-based and will be managed by BVSC.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and passionate Community Development Coordinator who is committed to making a difference to the lives of young people with relevant experience of Community Development Activities that supports capacity building within VCSE organisations.

You will have significant experience working with disadvantaged young people and their communities, have excellent communication and listening skills combined with the ability to inspire, motivate and gain trust. You will have exceptional organisational and planning skills along with an excellent understanding of boundaries and safeguarding relevant to working with young people and vulnerable groups.

The position presents an exciting opportunity for the right person to make a significant contribution to the work of the Birmingham Commission on Gangs and Violence and the communities and citizens of Birmingham
