Activies Support Worker

To deliver a range of activities that offer meaningful opportunities for service users to improve the quality of their lives and their wellbeing within early onset Dementia centres in Birmingham.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Working in a way that recognises and values diversity the Activity Worker will:

  1. Work with the Activity Centre Coordinator to develop and implement new  activities as agreed with the appropriate manager
  2. Deliver  activities as directed by the Activity Centre Coordinator
  3. Work with the Activity Centre Coordinator to ensure that the venues are set up and the activity  is delivered on time
  4. Work with the Activity Centre Coordinator to ensure that the venue is tidied where agreed and secure at the end of the working day
  5. Encourage participation through engaging non-participating service users
  6. Support volunteers in the activity
  7. Actively promote Birmingham Irish Association through statutory and voluntary organisations and establish and maintain effective operational working relationships.
  8. Adhere to Birmingham Irish Associations policies procedures and practices
  9. Attend supervision meetings, staff meetings, Birmingham Irish Associations AGM, annual appraisal meetings and other meetings as required
  10. Be responsible for the health and safety of yourself and others at work
  11. Undertake any training and development opportunities as agreed with the appropriate manager
  12. Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times
  13. Work in a non-discriminatory manner at all times

Carry out any other duties, which may be determined from time to time by the Management Team, in line with the aims and objectives of Birmingham Irish Association and in keeping with the purpose and grade of the job

Qualifications and training

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent

Skills and abilities

  • Good level of written and oral communication skills
  • Competence in the use of IT Packages (Microsoft Word, Excel & email)
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to maintain clear and consistent boundaries with clients
  • Ability to facilitate groups
  • Ability to demonstrate personal creativity
  • Ability to undertake training and maximise learning
  • Ability to work responsibility and flexibly
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player in a collaborative and supportive manner
  • Commitment to promoting diversity and equality


  • Experience of developing activity sessions and programmes
  • Experience of supporting vulnerable people in various settings
  • Knowledge of adult learning
  • Knowledge of the health & social care sector
  • Knowledge of the Irish Community and their experiences (desirable)
