Support a young refugee in their education with REUK At Refugee Education UK (REUK), our mentoring program connects young refugees and asylum seekers with dedicated volunteers like you to provide vital educational support. Whether helping with school subjects, improving English language skills, or wider pastoral support as a responsible adult in your mentees life, our mentors make a lasting impact on the lives of young people facing challenging circumstances in Birmingham. We need you now more than ever to make a difference. Why Volunteer as a Mentor? As a volunteer mentor with REUK, you will play a crucial role in supporting young refugees and asylum seekers in their educational journey. These young people, aged 14-25, are eager to learn and integrate into their new communities, but they often face significant barriers, including language challenges, gaps in education, and the complexities of navigating a new educational system. Your mentorship can be the bridge that helps them overcome these obstacles. What Does Mentoring Involve?One-to-One Support: You’ll meet with your mentee 1-to-1 in a public place for an hour each week, providing personalised support in their education as well providing wider pastoral support as their mentor.Longer term commitment: We ask for a minimum commitment of 6 months, which allows you to build a strong and meaningful relationship with your mentee.Training and Resources: REUK provides comprehensive training to ensure you are well-prepared for your mentoring role, along with ongoing support and resources as well as a strong community of fellow mentors. Who Are We Looking For?We are seeking committed and compassionate individuals who are passionate about education and social justice. You don’t need to be a teacher to be an effective mentor—what’s most important is your willingness to listen, encourage, and guide. How to ApplyIf you’re ready to make a difference, we encourage you to apply to become a volunteer mentor with REUK.
