Daniel got the keys to his very own flat with Camphill Village Trust supported living accommodation this summer – thanks to the support of their very own Shared Lives Scheme!

Daniel first came to live with his Shared Lives Carer Carole when he left foster care aged 16. Over the next three and a half years, he was able to develop his daily living skills of cooking, housework and managing his personal finances.

But it was the link with the wider Camphill Village Trust Community which was to make all the difference.

Camphill Village Trust's Stourbridge Community is made up of the Shared Lives Scheme, as well as a range of supported living accommodation and Ashfield Gardens, a five-acre social farm and garden on the edge of town. Area Coordinator Susanne suggested that Daniel tried a taster session at Ashfield Gardens. Susanne says 'Having known Daniel for a number of years, and knowing his love of animals, I encouraged him to go along to Ashfield Gardens – and he absolutely loved it! It didn’t take him long to settle, and he is thriving, spending his days caring for the animals at the farm!'

With the confidence he’d gained at Ashfield Gardens, and the support of Carole and Susanne, Daniel was ready to spread his wings. A vacancy within the Trust's supported living accommodation became available, and through partnership working with the Local Authority, he was given the keys to his own flat in summer this year! Shared Lives Head of Service Kate Morgan says 'This is a real success story for Daniel, and a fantastic example of how we can provide continuity of support for young people. The partnership work between our Shared Lives Scheme, Ashfield Gardens and our supported living has offered Daniel some great opportunities – and I’m sure there are many more to come!'
