Job Purpose

The Social Enterprise Participant Support Coordinator (PSC) will support the Coordinator for Therapeutic Activities to provide the best possible programme of therapeutic activities to our participants, ie; to people with mental health issues and with learning disabilities who volunteer on our therapeutic work and activities programmes.

The PSC will have responsibility for sitting alongside programme participants to agree their goals and aspirations and to ensure they are reflected in participant-led person-centred plans and action plans. The PSC will support the Leads for Therapeutic Activities to deliver actions plans.

The PSC will model a coaching style of support, training service users in the various activities that they choose to take part in, with the support of appropriately qualified and trained supervision.

Main duties and responsibilities

Support for People:

· To support the Lead for Therapeutic Activities to deliver person centred and individualised support to programme participants as they progress on their therapeutic work and training programme.

· To undertake person-centred planning with participants, encouraging a participant-led approach, that ensures participants’ goals and aspirations are met.

· To conduct regular reviews of person-centred plans, assisting with the reporting of progress and maintenance of all administration, including participant files.

· To assist in the delivery of training activities such that participants are fully supported to learn the skills required for the activities they undertake.

· To look out for participants in distress or who are otherwise struggling and, with the support of others, to seek the right support for them.

· To treat all participants and their concerns and progression equally, in compliance with equality and diversity policies.

· To ensure that there is respect for confidentiality at all times.

Facilities Management:

· To maintain safe and tidy workshop and activity spaces.

· To assist with the checking of equipment, reporting issues to ensure that equipment is maintained to the right standard,

· To maintain a comfortable environment for service users.

Risk and Health and Safety:

· To ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to.

· To comply with health and safety regulation.

· To ensure that PPE clothing is worn by all staff and service users when required.

· To ensure that the health and safety of staff and volunteers is always safeguarded.

· To alert the Senior Management Team to emerging risks and undertake mitigations as agreed.

· To participate in health and safety activities and undertake actions to rectify identified issues.

Information/Reporting:

· To update service user files regularly and to ensure that the standard of note taking, and record keeping is high

· To assist the Lead for Therapeutic Activities in the provision of reports and ad hoc information as required.

· To assist in the maintenance of participant registers which should be updated daily.

Driving:

· To step in when needed to transport items to, or collect items from, commercial customers when other staff who normally drive are away on leave or other unplanned absence.

Supervision, Training and Development:

· To participate in team meetings and supervision.

· To participate in appraisal and objective setting.

· To undertake mandatory training, including Mental Health First Aid training.

· To maintain one’s own continuous professional development.

General Responsibilities:

Essential:

· Interest in charity work and in supporting others to reach their potential

· Good negotiation and diplomacy skills

· Awareness of the cultural and other needs of ethnic minority communities

· Health & safety experience

· Flexible and adaptable with a willingness to go the extra mile for participants and the charity

· Driving licence

Desirable:

· Understanding of social enterprises

· Experience in implementing standard policies (e.g. Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities, Data Protection etc)

· Health and safety qualifications

· Safeguarding experience

· Proven ability to deal with conflict, stress, and crisis situations
