We’re reshaping and growing our team to deepen into our mission strands and to bring in expertise in narrative and communications. This is one of 4 new opportunities with our team. We are looking for a land and spatial justice advocate, who understands the process and some of the technical details around built environment projects, but also has the skills to co-ordinate and build relationships within communities and with stakeholders to make change happen. 💫 PURPOSE: To lead and develop MAIA’s Sites of Imagination mission strand, working with communities to envision, prototype and build life-affirming spaces and social infrastructures in their neighbourhoods.TIME: 2.5 days per weekTERMS: Permanent contract (with 6 month probationary period)SALARY: £30k pro rata (£1250 per month before tax)BENEFITS: 3 wellbeing days + 3 CPD days per year, 28 days holiday + bank holidays, birthdays off, £300 annual wellness budget, additional access budget availableLOCATION: West MidlandsAREAS OF WORK:- Supporting the CEO with the practical next steps for our developing capital project ‘ABUELOS’, including establishing and facilitating advisory and working groups.- Exploring options and conducting feasibility studies for the future development of YARD;- Researching, mapping, seeding, connecting with and sharing learning with ‘sites of imagination’ projects in other contexts.- Acting as part of MAIA’s Co-ordination cluster, collaborating with other Lead roles and the CEO to steward the overall work of the organisation, holding our vision and mission at the centre of everything that we do.WOULD SUIT SOMEONE WHO:- is passionate and holds a structural analysis about land and spatial justice;- has experience working in or adjacent to the 'Built Environment';- is familiar with the RIBA Plan of Work and can work collaboratively on Stages 0-1;- has experience of bringing together and facilitating communities and stakeholders with different interests;- is a natural researcher, reading and listening widely around systems change and social justice;- is articulate and able to talk and write about this work with confidence;- is a confident public speaker and networker, able to build rapport with a range of different people, from corporate partners to local residents;- is rigorous through the life of a project, from strong concepts into effective delivery and critical evaluation;- has good methods and working practice for learning about the West Midlands area and the communities that live there, with a particular focus in our immediate neighbourhood in Ladywood;- is comfortable working in unclear, uncertain or emergent contexts, within a team where rehearsal and experimentation are core practices;- is based in Birmingham or within reasonable commuting distance.DEADLINE: 9am Monday 2nd October 2023APPLICATION FORM: https://bit.ly/MAIARecSep23INTERVIEW DATES: Thurs 19 Oct & Fri 20 Oct 2023Please contact [email protected] if the application form is not accessible for you to discuss other ways to apply.Photo credit: Third Eye Photography
