This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the sexual health services for LGBT people in Birmingham and Solihull, working with the team at Birmingham LGBT. Birmingham LGBT is a partner in the Umbrella Sexual Health Service in Birmingham and Solihull, led by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. Training will be provided but an interest in the sexual health and well being of the LGBTQ community is key to this role.

Overall Aims:

  • To improve the health of men who have sex with men (MSM) and the wider LGBTQ+ community.
  • To reduce the incidence of STI infection and poor sexual health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans (LGBT) people in Birmingham & Solihull.
  • To reduce late diagnosis of HIV in Birmingham & Solihull.

Main areas of responsibility include:

  • To work alongside the sexual health team undertaking outreach work, focusing on the following target groups: LGBT community groups, areas/ events where the above target group may go – assessing need in relation to safer sex and sexual health.
  • To work alongside the sexual health team carrying out outreach work in various venues and other settings; virtual and physical where target group may meet.
  • To offer information and sexual health resources including condoms and lube in a variety of settings; including over the telephone, face to face and over internet.
  • To deliver appropriate community-based sexual health interventions including HIV point of care tests (POCT) and Assisted Self Sampling STI Tests to the target groups in community settings.
  • To market and promote these services, monitor and evaluate them.
  • To work in partnership with umbrella partner agencies.
