MAIA Group, Closing date: 2 October 

MAIA is looking for a freelance researcher / practitioner with an interest in regenerative economics and mutual aid, to undertake a short action research project exploring how MAIA supports the personal, structural and sustained capacities within our liberation movement: Resourcing the Movement Researcher (£5k freelance assignment, Birmingham).

MAIA is expanding! We’re reshaping and growing our team to deepen into our mission strands and to bring in expertise in narrative and communications. This is one of 4 new opportunities with our team.

💫 PURPOSE: To explore and test the feasibility of different approaches to developing capacity for collective world building within our community. These approaches may include: creating and distributing funds, resource libraries, partnership building, mutual aid initiatives, supply chain development.

TIME: To be agreed, but ideally around 30 days over 3 months

TERMS: Freelance contract

FEE: £5,000

BENEFITS: Access budget available

LOCATION: Birmingham

AREAS OF WORK:

- working with CEO and Mission Leads to identify possible initiatives that serve MAIA’s overall vision and mission;
- exploration and scoping of 5-10 different potential initiatives, including research and case studies of other similar initiatives, options for implementation, resources needed and any considerations for operating in alignment with MAIA’s values and vision;
- initiating relationships with other organisations in the community, exploring the potential for longer term partnerships and ensuring these relationships are handed over to the team;
- preparing and presenting a report (written, audio or visual) that summarises the learning and makes recommendations for next steps for MAIA team and Board.

WOULD SUIT SOMEONE WHO:

- is passionate about regenerative economics, community development and mutual aid;
- has a good understanding of, and commitment to, disability justice principles;
- enjoys both desk based research and getting out and about and meeting people;
- is a confident networker, able to build rapport with a range of different people, from corporate partners to local residents
- can think strategically with a whole organisation / system level perspective
- can generate and evaluate different options and proposals for action
- can present their ideas clearly and concisely, whether in written form, verbally or visually
- has a good knowledge of Birmingham, particularly in and surrounding Ladywood and the communities we work with
- has 2 -3 days a week available for a freelance project between October 23 and February 24
