Job Description

Job Title: Progression Caseworker

Location: St Catherine of Siena – Birmingham

Hours: The post is being offered as:
2 part-time posts of 18 hrs per week each
or
1 full-time 37 hrs per week post
(fixed term to March 2025 with potential to extend)
Varied working pattern to be agreed including evenings and weekends. Part-time posts can opt for weekend and evenings only.

Grade: SCP 22-24 (£24,116 - £25,621) pro rata

Responsible to: Tabor House Project Manager

Background: Tabor Living works in partnership with Father Hudson’s Care. Providing accommodation and support for those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Based in Birmingham, we specialise in person centred, strength-based approach. We work with individuals to build positive futures. Due to the success of the project, we have expanded and relocated to a larger site, St Catherine’s of Siena – Birmingham. Tabor Living has 9 emergency bed, 10 move on/next steps rooms at the new site, with a further 3 bedroomed property nearby.

Job Purpose: To work with Tabor Living guests 1-1 and in groups, focusing on our move/next steps accommodation. Using a strength-based approach you will work alongside guests, using skills, knowledge and partnership links to help them realise their goals and achieve a positive move on. You will work directly on the community support volunteering project to empower individuals to secure tenancies and integrate into the local community. The majority of those the role works be in employment or accessing benefits. This post is part of a small staff team at Tabor Living where the whole team work together to deliver and run the whole site/project.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Carry out strength-based assessment of guests to understand each individual’s current situation, to determine their needs and support requirements.
2. To work closely with the resettlement worker and guests at Tabor house.
3. Work with guests 1-1 and in groups to develop their support/action plan, being proactive in motivating and empowering them to engage with services, progression opportunities and encourage them to realise their personal goals.
4. Support guests at each stage of their journey as they move into the move on/next steps accommodation at Tabor Living, as they stay with us and as they move on to more permanent tenancies.
5. To carry out room checks and ensure the accommodation is running safely and smoothly in close liaison with the Project Manager and Facilities and Communities Coordinator.
6. To ensure guests practical needs are met, liaising with the project manager on purchases and items needed in the accommodation and for individuals.
7. Work alongside and offer support to the community support volunteers, assigning to guests and being part of their support/action plan, working closely with the Tabor Living Volunteer Coordinator.
8. Arrange support and activities to enable guests to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need, liaising with the rest of the Tabor Living team. In particular to work closely with the facilities and Activity coordinator to support the design and delivery of group activities both within the Tabor Living site and in the community that provide guests with opportunities to achieve their personal goals and outcomes.
9. Work closely with the staff, volunteers and the local community to enable individuals to make positive steps for themselves.
10. Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with partners and other agencies. Submit referrals to external partners as required, ensuring that guest engagement and progress is followed up.
11. Accurately record guest data and monitor their progression.
12. Record and monitor relevant information on behalf of the project.
13. Provide outcomes, evaluation, case studies and reports to the Project Manager as required.
14. Complete relevant risk assessments in liaison with the Project Manager

General
15. To be an active part of the Tabor Living staff and volunteer team. Working together to ensure the smooth running of all our accommodation provision and to be available for communication with all our guests, volunteers and other visitors on site as required.
16. To attend team and organisational meetings.
17. To be part of the on-call staff team on a rota basis (paid an additional monthly sum).
18. To adhere to Father Hudson’s Care policies and procedures including data protection, health, and safety, safeguarding and incident reporting.
19. Ensure safeguarding arrangements are maintained and working practices comply with the Health and Safety at Work legislation to ensure your own safety and the safety of others.
20. To implement the principles and practice of equal opportunities
21. To commit to ongoing development, attending and taking part in training/learning as required.
22. To undertake additional duties as may be identified with your line manager.
23. To be available for weekends, early mornings and evenings as required.
24. Carry out any other reasonable tasks commensurate with the role.
