St Martins Youth Centre, Closing date: On Request

We require someone to provide youth work sessions with the emphasis on providing activities particularly focusing on young women between the ages of 13-25.

Relationships:

a) To work collaboratively and professionally alongside other staff, Trustees, volunteers and community partners; building on their experience, gifts, and strengths; affirming, encouraging and enabling others in order to fulfil the purpose of this job description

b) To build excellent relationships with the young people, based on integrity and best professional practice, by:
i. offering support;
ii. seeking to listen carefully to identify their concerns, challenges, goals and interests,
iii. and helping them to grow in confidence, develop skills, and attain aspirations

c) to reach out to new young people, forging links - especially with any underrepresented groups – and enabling them to become fully engaged in the life of the centre

d) to maintain strong lines of communication with parents, carers and/ or guardians, providing regular updates and feedback, and seek to create opportunities to hear their concerns, ideas etc
e) to assist with the oversight of volunteers to facilitate and initiate youth centre activities

f) to build effectively on existing community links and continue to develop the positive reputation of the youth centre within the neighbouring community

g) to ensure all those with whom we engage are respected, honoured, appreciated and encouraged

Key responsibilities:

a) To work directly with young people and potential users of the Centre, group, club or project.

b) To be responsible for running specific activities/ events/ projects, ensuring the active participation of young people.

c) To working alongside other employees to develop and organise a full programme of activities and events throughout the year.

d) To advise senior workers/ management on the needs of young people and to take responsibility for the design, delivery, monitoring and development of service provision.

e) To work within the Centre’s policies and procedures, particularly with regard to safeguarding, equal opportunities, H&S etc, actively promoting services to meet the needs of disadvantaged and minority groups.

f) To be responsible for day to day administration and record keeping required by funders/ management in relation to running a specific project/ activity which may include, e.g. collating feedback and evaluations, registers, registration forms, session summaries, writing reports etc, to required deadlines where appropriate.

g) To work as a member of a team and as team leader where appropriate, liaising with other relevant services and agencies to assist in meeting the needs of the Centre.

h) To work alongside employees and volunteer staff as appropriate.

i) To attend regular supervision sessions with the Trustee with responsibility for HR.

j) This post necessitates a commitment to ongoing training and the postholder is expected to attend relevant training sessions as agreed and as required.

k) To maintain a calm, safe and supportive environment within the Centre, including appropriate and supportive responses to inappropriate behaviour, disputes and incidents; and accountability for the well-being of young people, staff and volunteers.

l) To ensure safe and appropriate use of the centre facilities and resources, including careful attention to setting up, clearing away and storage

m) To evaluate and monitor all activities, including consultation with the young people, to track progress and evidence the impact of our programme.

n) To identify potential sources of funding – grants, partnerships, sponsors, trusts etc – and assist with applications as required.

o) To undertake, from time to time, other reasonable duties appropriate to the post as considered necessary by the Management Committee
