Matthew is a member-elected representative on the board. He is the Operations Executive at Sport 4 Life UK - a Birmingham-based youth charity that uses sport as a hook to engage 12-25 year old disadvantaged young people. Matthew has over 5 years experience of managing community engagement projects and managing services for under-represented groups in Birmingham. Before then, Matthew had 3 years experience working at local authority and was responsible for youth and adult engagement in physical activity.
Matthew has a passion and strong belief in that everyone should be given an opportunity, regardless of their start in life and disadvantage they face. This sentiment is very much embedded in the ethos of BVSC, which was a huge attraction to becoming a board member. Sport 4 Life shares this mindset by creating a level playing field for young people who face disadvantage - whether that be through socio-economic issues, offending, low attainment, or poor life skills. Sport 4 Life tackle this by delivering sports-themed personal development and employability programmes that deliver five key services (i) sport sessions, (ii) workshops, (iii) accredited qualifications, (iv) one-to-one mentoring, and (v) work placement and volunteering.
Having overseen the operational development and growth at Sport 4 Life, Matthew is well placed to contribute effectively at board level and is very keen to use his existing experience to help the SMT, as well increase his own strategic understanding and skills.
