Leadership development session: Understanding change in the third sector BVSC are working in partnership with the Third Sector Research Centre at the University of Birmingham and Sheffield Hallam University to develop a leadership development programme for the third sector in Birmingham. This builds on ongoing sessions we have been running together to reflect on change. As a pilot, we are running two online workshops, on the 15th December (14:30-16:00) and 16th December (10:00-11:30) focusing on change in the third sector. The first workshop (14:30-16:00 on the 15th December 2020) will focus on understanding what change looks like and how it happens (sources of change) in third sector organisations. We will consider, for example, the extent to which organisations determine their own futures or are simply subject to external forces. The second workshop (10:00-11:30 on the 16th December 2020) will focus on exploring the role of different stakeholders (influencing and experiencing change), particularly considering the involvement of service users, volunteers and staff in shaping change. These sessions do not focus specifically on change during COVID-19, although there will be plenty of opportunities to reflect on recent experiences within the context of wider discussions of change. You are welcome to join us for one or both of the workshops. Participation is free, although registration is essential. You will be asked for your feedback on the workshops at the end of each session so that we can use the learning to refine future programmes. All aspiring leaders are eligible to attend, whatever your formal position within an organisation, but we envisage that these sessions will be particularly useful for those currently or soon to be responsible for managing organisations, projects or services.
