Invitation to Quote: 'Seldom Heard Physical Activity Conversations' - Tender now live

As part of shaping the approach to creating an Active City in Birmingham, the Public Health Division is looking to commission a series of targeted focus group conversations about physical activity, especially exploring beliefs and attitudes to ways of making every day short trips to work and school, with communities that are rarely heard from.

The findings from these conversations will help influence the development of the Creating an Active City action plan, it will also assist us in delivering our commitments as part of the Partnership for Healthy Cities, of which Birmingham is a member.  All of this is aiming to shape a better environment for everyday physical activity for citizens of all ages and in every community in Birmingham.

We are specifically looking to commission focus groups with the following groups of Birmingham citizens:
a) Refugee and asylum seekers
b) First generation migrants who moved to Birmingham within the last 5yrs
c) Third/Fourth generation children of migrants whose grandparents or great-grand parents moved to Birmingham in the 1950/60s
d) People with physical impairments
e) People with sensory impairments
f) People of working age with mental health conditions
g) People of working age with long term health conditions e.g. diabetes, COPD
h) Teenagers (14-18yrs)
i) Older adults living independently (Over 65yrs)
j) Pregnant mothers & expectant fathers
k) Young men (18-25yrs)
l) Young women (18-25yrs)
m) Unemployed adults
n) LGBT+
o) Ethnic minority communities, specifically separate focus groups with the following ethnic groups:
Polish and eastern European
Chinese/Vietnamese/Korean
African communities
Caribbean communities
South Asian communities
p) People from different employment sectors, specifically separate focus groups with the following groups:
Manufacturing
Health and Social Care
Professional and Financial Services
Hospitality
Retail

The Council is looking to fund up to 30 different focus groups, the maximum contract value for each focus group is £2,000.00 (excl VAT).
Providers may tender for more than one targeted focus group population. The council expects no individual bid to exceed £10,000.00

How to apply
Proposals should be no longer than two pages of A4 (per focus group) and no more than four pages (if more than one focus group is being applied for.)
Proposals should include any relevant experience of carrying out focus group work as well as experience of working with the target groups identified. Further details on tender specification.
