Have your say on SEND Services in Birmingham
BVSC has been asked to undertake a survey of anyone who has experience of using Birmingham's Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) services, in order to review and understand its users' experiences.
Why are we carrying out this survey?
Birmingham was inspected by OFSTED and CQC in June 2018 to judge the effectiveness of the City in implementing the special educational needs and disability (SEND) reforms as set out in the Children and Families Act 2014.
The Chief Inspector requested Birmingham City Council (BCC) and Birmingham and Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group (BSol) to jointly submit a Written Statement of Action because of significant areas of weakness in the local area’s practice.
Whilst there were some examples of good practice, overall services and the SEND system across the city was failing children and families and not delivering good outcomes for individuals with special educational needs or disabilities.
A Partnership (comprising Birmingham City Council, Birmingham & Solihull CCG, Birmingham Children’s Trust and Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust) is working together to understand what has gone wrong. Then together with parents, schools and the voluntary sector they will work towards delivering a new SEND service over the next two years.
Who do we want to hear from?
- Parents and Carers
We want to hear from you if you are (or have been) a parent or a carer of a child or young person (up to the age of 18) accessing SEND services.
- Voluntary Sector Representatives
Although the survey questions are tailored towards parents and carers, we would also like to hear from voluntary sector representatives who have direct experience of SEND services via their beneficiairies. You may not be able to answer every question, so please skip any you feel you can't answer.
The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. The survey closes on Sunday 11 November 2018.

The information that you provide will form part of our review process and progress will be shared with parent/carer forums in early 2019.
