Happy Healthy Holidays clubs in Birmingham

Thursday, 21 November, 2019

In 2019 the Happy Healthy Holidays consortium secured Department for Education funding and awarded grants totalling over £1.2m to community organisations, schools, faith groups and children’s centres to deliver up to 16 days of free, quality assured holiday club activity with healthy meals, nutrition education, enrichment and physical activities in Birmingham.

Together, 153 Happy Healthy Holidays clubs in Birmingham delivered 90,270 activity sessions with meals to 13,665 children and young people during the 2019 summer holidays. 5,436 of the activity days were specifically for children with Special Education Needs. Collectively, 695 staff completed training across induction, allergy, safeguarding, cooking and hygiene.

The Department of Education has recently announced grants to fund the local co-ordination of free holiday activities and healthy food for disadvantaged children during 2020 summer holidays. Supported by Birmingham City Council the Happy Healthy Holidays consortium will again be applying for this grant.

We want to build on this summer’s fantastic achievements and further strengthen the quality standards and the quantity of free holiday activities with healthy food available to low-income families in Birmingham with increased levels of daily funding per child to a maximum of £9.35/pupil a day for the mainstream provision and £20/day for SEND provision

We are looking for partners (both existing and new) who would be willing to support us and/or work with us and help deliver fun activity days with meals in the summer holidays.  If you are interested to play a part, supported by some level of grant if necessary, please could you complete the following form by 2nd December 2019 :

Note: we are only at the tendering stage so are not able to make any firm commitments to organisations about summer delivery at this stage, but we hope to be in touch with you by mid-March to confirm next steps.
