Ageing Better in Birmingham: Changing Practice in Adult Social Care Provision

Monday, 23 September, 2019

As Ageing Better in Birmingham enters its final years, BVSC are pleased to be seeking a delivery partner to implement the final element of the LGBT Local Area Plan, the Changing Practice in Adult Social Care Provision project. Local Action Plans were co-designed with older LGBT people to address the underlying causes of social isolation specific to their community; with commissioned projects, such as the Ageing with Pride campaign, aspiring to have outcomes that are impactful and sustainable beyond the Ageing Better programme.

The aim of the Changing Practice in Adult Social Care Provision project is to provide a package of bespoke support, devise an ‘LGBT-inclusive Quality Scheme’ and develop training resources aimed at Adult Social Care commissioners, providers and workforce. It is designed to raise awareness of issues faced by older LGBT people in care settings, by drawing on best practice and identifying key equality and inclusion practices that will improve outcomes for older LGBT adults accessing Adult Social Care services.

By the end of 2020 the project aims to:

Raise awareness of LGBT equality and inclusion, promoting the adoption of best practice in Adult Social Care for older LGBT people amongst:

  • Adult Social Care providers.
  • Adult Social Care workforce.
  • Adult Social Care commissioners.
  • Improve the delivery of equality and inclusion priorities for the LGBT community.
  • Improve the commissioning, monitoring, inspection and quality standards of Adult Social Care providers with regard to services for older LGBT people.

We will be awarding a contract up to the value of £96,172 and the project must be completed by the end of December 2020.
