Read Easy Birmingham South West is a local financially independent charity affiliated with Read Easy UK. We train volunteers to coach adults who struggle to read. Around 15 per cent (approximately 5m) of the working age population in England struggles with basic, functional literacy. This means that they struggle even to do their food shopping, use cash points, read bus timetables or understand health warnings. Finding work - particularly rewarding work - can also be very difficult if you can’t read well.

Many people are too embarrassed to admit their difficulties and very few feel able to join an adult education class due to previous experiences of failure at school.

Your fundraising will enable Read Easy Birmingham South West to offer an accessible, community-based approach to helping adults learn to read.
