Difficult Conversations: Making the Impossible Conversation Possible

Many of my coaching conversations have had at their heart a leader needing to have a “difficult conversation” in order to make changes.  This course will give you the skills and confidence to arrange and have these crucial and important conversations with, team members, peers, your own manager or suppliers. By the end of the course, you will be ready, prepared and equipped to tackle situations you might often look to defer or ignore.

Crucial conversations if conducted professionally with skill improve individual and team performance.  They also build morale and significantly increase your leadership satisfaction.

The course and individual coaching session provide a practical approach for identifying, preparing and engaging in those difficult but “must have” conversations including:

  • Giving bad news
  • Major decisions
  • Sensitive issues
  • Inappropriate behaviour

Content includes:

  • What are difficult conversations and why have them?
  • The different types of difficult conversations leaders need to have
  • Exploring why these conversations feel difficult.
  • What can we do to prepare for a conversation?
  • Identifying skills and techniques for delivering a difficult conversation successfully
  • Following up difficult conversations

Learning outcomes:

  • To understand what a difficult conversation is and the benefits of having them
  • To be able to prepare professionally to maximise the likelihood of the conversation being successful
  • To learn new (and refresh old) skills to increase your confidence in having difficult conversations
  • To have a professional follow up approach that helps maximise the benefits of the conversation.

Who should attend?

  • Anyone who has to have a crucial work based conversation
  • Managers
  • Senior Managers
  • CEO’s and Trustees

What have delegates said about Rob’s coaching/training?

A really informative day.  Taking back some great strategies to use in my everyday work.  Hasun of St Mary’s Hospice

Rob is a great facilitator and delivered the course with humour.  He encouraged the delegates to give real life problems and come up with simple effective solutions that we can implement into our working lives. Liz of The Scouts association

I recently met Rob through a training day he was facilitating and then a subsequent coaching session. I found him to be very perceptive, friendly and approachable and his approach ensured that I got the very most from both the training and also the one-to-one coaching session.  Claire at CLAPA

I enjoyed the material and interaction of the session. The trainer was knowledgeable and engaging throughout. I would definitely recommend further training by this facilitator." Kate Morgan of CVS

This was an incredibly helpful course, which was professionally delivered, fun and informative." - Jane Upson Birmingham Healthwatch
