Coaching and mentoring as a line manager

This highly participative, one day course and individual coaching session will help anyone who is line managing people to gain additional skills to ensure they develop their staff and performance.  By the end of the day you will understand and have practiced coaching and be confident to try it out in the workplace.

This course covers:

  • Difference between mentoring and coaching 
  • The T/GROW model of coaching and how to use it
  • Getting the coaching habit: seven important questions to use
  • The key skills for coaching and mentoring
  • The different circumstances you can use coaching (and when not to!)
  • And lots of opportunity to try all of the above out.

Learning outcomes:

  • Know the difference between coaching and mentoring.
  • Understanding of the T/GROW model of coaching
  • Experience of coaching using the model
  • Understanding of what questions are most helpful in using coaching or mentoring.
  • Understanding and practice of the key skills in coaching and mentoring.

Who should attend?
Supervisors, coordinators, managers, directors and trustees who have line management responsibility for staff and/or volunteers.

What’s included?
This is a one day course that includes a one-hour individual coaching session (to take place in central Birmingham) for each delegate. Refreshments are included throughout the day, including a sandwich lunch. The venue is fully accessible. However, please make us aware of any particular access or dietary requirements in advance as we will do our very best to meet individual needs to ensure a great training experience for all delegates.

Who runs this training?
The trainer for this session is Rob Legge. Rob has been an independent coach and trainer for five years. Prior to that he was the CEO of Focus Birmingham for ten years. He set up and ran the national Community Services Directorate at Sense, was Head of Shops at Oxfam and a Regional Fundraising Director for RNIB. Rob has also been a governor at a special school in Birmingham and volunteers at a local arts centre, and with his wife is a host for Redditch Nightstop helping young homeless people.
Rob's training style is highly participative and is based on his practical experience of over 30 years of management in the voluntary sector.
Rob Legge is a specialist trainer and coach for 3rd sector clients.  He has run this course for four years and his coaching client list is over sixty individuals.
