Art Club Volunteers Needed
We are looking for volunteers to support Friction Art’s Saturday Art Club.
Art Club is a series of free art workshops for young people lead and organised by contemporary Brummy artists. It is a good place for young people to experiment with different art forms. Activities change over time and will move between visual arts, drama, photography, film, and more. You will be instrumental in enabling young people’s ideas and aspirations.
Volunteers will be required to attend Saturdays (during term time only) 10:00-12:30 or 14:00-16:30 Having an artistic background helps, but you don’t have to be an artist to volunteer with us, common sense goes a long way!
Volunteers choose to join us for a variety of reasons; some would like to showcase a skill to help them refine their workshop teaching experience; others want to experience leading groups of young people to improve teaching skills and behaviour management prior to commencing teacher training.
Some volunteers have gone on to study at Goldsmiths (MA in Art Therapy), working as an activity coordinator and another is now teaching in a secondary school. Our reputation has grown and we have been rated as No1. In the Midlands for Arts Activities for young people by Ruth Millington http://ruthmillington.co.uk/best-childrens-art-classes-birmingham/
Main duties include:
- Room and equipment preparation as required by the leader.
- Take photos of activities.
- Help the children to complete individual learning plans & stay on track.
- Supervise clearing up.
- Prep refreshments, food
- Keeping the space tidy between groups and after the PM group. Get the children to tidy up their working areas
- Make sure children are collected by their parents/ adults responsible for them.
- Enhanced DBS certificate
- Adhere to Friction Arts’ safeguarding policies & reporting child safety concerns to the Art Club leader.
Benefits: We offer a ‘Cred Edge’ Scheme- Basically in return for your volunteering (depending on how long you stay with us and your performance) we can offer a variety of ‘in kind’ help; such as help with C.V.s, references, and micro teach teaching activities for school interviews. We sometimes offer equipment/space hire when appropriate (and if we have it). If you stay all day we can offer lunch and we also refund bus fare if you can produce your tickets.
Art Club is lead by practising artist Nita Newman and supported with visiting artists from a range of art forms. It is organised by Friction Arts who have made art in Birmingham and Internationally for over 25 years.
