Following the success of COVID-19 Community Champions, Birmingham City Council are now launching Bolder Healthier Champions’ that will work with Birmingham City Council Public Health.

COVID-19 Champions were essential in assisting Birmingham City Council to tackle the many challenges that were posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Champions provided access to reliable and safe COVID-19 information to share with friends, families, and communities. By receiving trustworthy and clear information regularly, Birmingham residents were able to make more informed choices, to stay as safe as possible as we continued to live in the pandemic.

The COVID-19 champions have now evolved into Bolder Healthier Champions, continuing to contribute in reducing health inequalities that exist throughout Birmingham. The role of champions and their community connections can be utilised in coming years, assisting with the council’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy, ‘Creating a Bolder, Healthier City 2022 to 2030’

Being a Bolder Healthier Champion is important to protect public health as receiving trustworthy and clear information regularly, Birmingham residents will be able to make more informed choices for their health and wellbeing. Champions will have access to reliable, safe, and up-to-date health information to share with friends, families and their communities. Bolder Healthier Champions will have the opportunity to work closely with the public health team to design and create useful and shareable information so local communities can take control of their own health and wellbeing.

Being a Bolder Healthier Champion is a great opportunity to use local knowledge and understanding of communities to be a champion of place, and support and guide the community to improve health and wellbeing. Throughout the next year there will also be the opportunity for Bolder Healthier Champions to receive Community Leadership Training.
