Cherished is a non-profit organisation providing attachment focused support for girls and boys in primary and secondary schools across Birmingham.

At Cherished, we are passionate about supporting children to feel safe, seen, soothed and secure through compassion, empathy and kindness.

We are looking for volunteers to support the delivery of our services across schools.

Cherished is our service for female volunteers to support girls, and Roar is for male volunteers to support boys. We believe that every young person should have a positive role-model to turn to for support to face life’s challenges.

The services that you can be involved with as a volunteer include:

• 1:1 Mentoring:

Support a child in a school for one hour a week for a minimum of 12 weeks. As a mentor you will work towards an accredited Level 3 Mentoring qualification, receive high-quality training and will be required to plan your mentoring sessions to meet the needs of the young person who you support.

• School course delivery including:

The Cherished Course for girls in primary and secondary school, exploring themes of friendships, relationships, self-esteem, managing worries, social media, kindness, gratitude and hopes and dreams. (A minimum of 1 hour a week for 8 weeks).

Kindness Counts for girls in years 7 & 8 at secondary school exploring mental wellbeing topics self-esteem, anxiety and worries, calming skills, gratitude and empowerment. (A minimum of 1 hour a week for 6 weeks).

I Am Able Roar Course for boys in primary school, exploring bravery, confidence, social skills and more. (A minimum of 1 hour a week for 8 weeks).

• Workshops including:

Kind Time for children in reception, year 1 & year 2 at primary school to explore kindness and compassion through a story book resource.

Kind Club for children in year 1, 2 & 3 after school to explore compassion, kindness and being a good friend through a story book resource.

Poetry Workshops for girls in year 9 at secondary school to own their story their way. A creative space for girls to express their feelings and get comfortable with performance.

Animation Workshops for children in primary school to build confidence and develop friendships through craft and digital tools.

• After school groups including:

Blossom, a safe and creative space after school for girls of primary and secondary school age to make friendships, develop wellbeing, explore talents and more.

Roar group, a safe and engaging space for boys after school to build confidence, develop friendships and explore skills.
