ReCOM is a local charity providing digital skills training in Solihull and Birmingham. With more and more services and opportunities going online (particularly since the pandemic), digital exclusion results in a lack of access and participation in today’s world. For those who already face barriers perhaps through age, health or income, digital exclusion can further widen this inequality. ReCOM is dedicated to bridging this gap, supporting those who are excluded benefit from the many social, economic and financial benefits that IT and the internet have to offer. Starting from a zero base in 2002, the charity has grown significantly and prior to the pandemic was supporting around 500 people each year.

Making this happen is an enthusiastic, well-managed operational team made up of an Operations Manager with three staff; more than 40 skilled volunteers; and a pool of experienced tutors. Many of our services are delivered in partnership with other local organisations, such as the Solihull Library Service and Birmingham’s Neighbourhood Network Schemes.

Due to the planned retirement of the Chair, we are seeking someone with the skills and commitment to provide leadership into the future. The role requires experience and skills in business development and planning, financial acumen and an understanding of the particular challenges facing any small business seeking to grow. Prior experience within the charity sector or in a governance role would be preferred but is not an essential requirement.

Regular time commitment is required for preparation & attendance at board meetings and progress meetings with the Operations Manager. In return, working with our established and enthusiastic team, you’ll be making a huge difference in the local community and ensuring ReCOM’s long term sustainability.

We’d love to hear from you. Message or call Carol Wood (current Chair) on 07836 507013 or email her on [email protected]

Closing date for applicants: 16th April 2021

We welcome applications from individuals who are representative of the communities we serve. Please note the successful applicant will be required to have a full enhanced DBS check prior to commencing the role.
