Trident Group has appointed a new Chair of the Board. Brian Carr was confirmed in post on Monday, 26 September replacing Colin Small who has served as Chair since 2019.

Brian has been Chief Executive of Birmingham Voluntary Service Council since 2005. He joined the organisation after training as a personnel manager with Marks and Spencer plc, and time spent setting up and leading a Legal Aid service as managing director of a local Citizens Advice Bureau.

His current role involves strategically leading BVSC in the full range of its activities, which focus on providing advocacy and development support to charities, community groups, and volunteers, and supporting the public and private sectors to better engage with the local voluntary sector.

His experience in the voluntary sector and working with local partners will be a great asset to Trident Group as it continues to provide housing and support to customers across the Midlands.

"I’m very pleased to have been confirmed this week as the new Group Chair of Trident Group, following three years spent as the board’s Senior Independent Director and as chair of the People and Performance Subcommittee.  

I take up this role in addition to my position as chief executive of Birmingham Voluntary Service Council, and as a non-executive director of Birmingham Children’s Trust.

Trident Group has 60 years’ experience of delivering homes, services and innovation for up to 8,000 people in over 3,400 homes in some of the most disadvantaged communities in the Midlands. We employ more than 700 staff, work with over 150 volunteers, and provide training places and apprenticeships for many more. The Group has an annual turnover of more than £37m and owns assets close to £190m.

The Group includes Trident Housing, which provides landlord services for the Group in respect of housing management and maintenance; Trident Reach, a registered care and support charity providing social support services in the areas of homelessness, mental health, young people, older people, BME groups and domestic violence; and Trident Star, the group’s commercial body.
