Shirley volunteers at Blakesley Hall (Birmingham Museums Charitable Trust) and here at BVSC.
What do you do?
Blakesley: Take customers on tour of the Hall, give information about the history of the Hall. Assist in preparation of craft activities for children to participate in during school holidays.
BVSC: Responsible for Group sessions for organisations supporting people with problems, addictions supporting people etc in their lives to encourage back into normal living. Any administration work required.
How often do you volunteer?
Blakesley: 2 Days each week plus any events requiring more support.
BVSC: 1 Day per week.
Why do you volunteer?
I originally volunteered to fill my time following my retirement from paid work. Now I volunteer because I love what I do. I cannot imagine my life without Blakesley Hall and BVSC.
How you got involved in volunteering/organisation?
BVSC: On recommendation of member of staff.
Blakesley Hall: After starting at BVSC saw advent on board and was interested and so applied.
What you get out of volunteering?
Joy, contentment, meeting some amazing people. A renewed love of history and the gratitude for having the ability to pass it on.
What are your passions and interests?
Blakesley is my passion. History in general. My children and grandchildren. Zumba. Getting to know new people.
