Become an Adventures Volunteer - Supporting people with Dementia and their carers to have a holiday We are looking for volunteers from Birmingham to support us for the duration of one (or more if you have time) of our 5-day holidays in 2025. See our 2024 holiday destinations and dates to give you an idea of where we go https://dementiaadventure.org/holidays/holidays-2024/ You can apply here: https://dementiaadventure.beaconforms.com/form/1676a38c Where: Various Holiday DestinationsWhat does a Holiday (Adventures) Supporter do?: Work alongside other volunteers and a member of the Dementia Adventure staff team to assist and support people living with dementia and their carer to have the best possible holiday experience. You’ll be:~Meeting the Holiday (Adventure) Leader and other volunteers at the holiday location.~Working together to support all the activities planned in the itinerary such as trips, walks, and tours.~Providing an extra pair of hands, supporting holiday guests with as little or as much assistance as they require with tasks such as unpacking/packing, and support during activities (there is no expectation to provide personal care).~Offering physical support such as pushing a wheelchair.~Assisting the Holiday Leader in encouraging the guests to participate in the holiday as much as possible, encouraging them to get ready, to eat and drink, and to be appropriately dressed for the weather.~Working together to support mealtimes. This may include some basic cooking, heating of pre-prepared meals, or preparing packed lunches.~Spending time with the holiday guests living with dementia to go through a photo album, listen to some music, read a section of a book, engage with some arts & crafts, play a game etc. This could offer their carer a break for an hour, or may be required to divert their attention if they’re feeling restless/anxious/tired during the day.~Helping to provide an uplifting and lasting experience.~Taking photos and/or videos on behalf of Dementia Adventure on a Dementia Adventure device.~Administering basic first aid (training provided), should the need arise.How much time will I have to commit?All our supported holidays are 5 days long and you would be required for the entire holiday. We also require some of your time before the holiday for training, preparation, and after the holiday for feedback.
