This role is a deeply rewarding opportunity to support our new community development project at Greenlane Masjid & Community Centre in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support.
We are looking for a community champion to join our team to deliver this project to the Muslim community.

The key activities of the role include:
- Attending training on community development and cancer awareness
- Participating in focus groups
- Sharing cancer services with people living with cancer and families affected by cancer.
- Volunteering at GLMCC support groups to people living with and affected by cancer.
- Building capacity and empowering the community on their awareness of early signs of cancer and accessing services early.
- Attending steering group meetings to share knowledge and case studies to key stakeholders.
Commitment:
- Dedicated Cancer Community Champions to commit an average of 5 hours a week to support the project.

The skills needed for this role:
- Lived experience of cancer or caring for someone living with cancer.
- Affected by cancer in the past.
- A passion for raising awareness on cancer.
- Awareness of cultural sensitivity within Muslim community.
- Experience of working within BAME and Muslim communities.
- Good listening and communication skills.

Our commitment to you:
At GLMCC you will be working closely with the Welfare Team and our dedicated Macmillan Community Development Officer. You will receive a volunteer induction, regular training and guidance and support.
You will be part of a committed team working to deliver an empathic and rewarding service to the Muslim community living with cancer. You will have the opportunity to take part in stakeholder meetings with health care professionals within cancer support services.
